Why I Chose This Career
I was a client of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network and was recruited by my representative when I was in management in the telecommunications business.

I quickly learned the most rewarding part of being a Financial Representative is the freedom of being self-employed. Day to day, I appreciate the relationships I develop with my clients.

This business can be challenging, too. The biggest one was getting started and learning how to communicate with my clients efficiently so that I could help them secure their financial futures. In the first few years, the biggest challenge was learning the difference between the client who honestly wanted my help and the one who didn't.

Along the way, I have learned that my capacity to work hard is controlled only by my willingness to serve. I love what I do and am fortunate enough to spend my days working with wonderful associates and clients who obviously care about their families and about doing what is right.

A Time I Made a Difference
I called a prospect for several months to get the first meeting scheduled and finally we scheduled an appointment. This client had a difficult medical history to insure and finally decided to purchase life insurance.

After several weeks the policy was approved with a large extra premium due to the medical history. My client accepted the policy because of my conviction.

One year later my client passed away. The client's family was forever impacted due to the loss but financially was able to keep the day-to-day lifestyle unchanged. The family was able to keep the house and the children were able to stay in their chosen schools.

If you're considering this career, I would say to look inside yourself and ask, "Do I care enough about someone else's goals and dreams to effectively help them without thinking about what is in it for me?"

Outside of Work
I am involved in my community with Catholic Charities as a member on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee.
