| A Rewarding Career Choice
I became a Financial Representative right out of college. My father had worked for Northwestern his entire career, and I always wanted to work with him. The greatest reward in this career is helping individuals and businesses with their insurance and benefit programs. Every day you are working on different opportunities with different people. Overcoming the Challenges With sales, comes a fair amount of rejection and disappointment. You have to remain focused and stay positive. And early on, it's hard to find enough quality people to call on. But I've learned that by staying disciplined and being committed to doing what is right at all times will pay off at the end. A Time I Made a Difference I had a client and friend become disabled. The disability insurance payments allowed him to keep his home and maintain his financial dignity during the two years of treatment and therapy. Some Career Advice I have been with the company for almost twenty years. Twenty more would be pretty neat! This business has many rewards -- helping people, working for a great company, financial freedom, etc. However, you need to pay your dues in the first 10-15 years. The reputation of the company is second to none. Northwestern always seems to do the right thing for their policyowners. You will never have to apologize for the performance of Northwestern. Outside of Work I have tried to stay involved with at least two non-profit groups on a regular basis. This business provides you with the flexibility to do this more so than most careers.
