A Rewarding Career Shift
Ever since graduation, I have been working in finance management doing accounting, cash flow forecasts, budgeting, quarterly and year-end closings, auditing, etc.

I was subject to a strict corporate schedule and stuck behind a computer practically all day long and made no difference in anybody's life.

The desire to be more in control of my life, maintaining my own schedule and the ability to get out of the office and help people, combined with the monetary long-term potential are my reasons for the career change.

This career rewards me in many ways: the feeling of independence and having control of my life, the fun I have working with people and helping them with their financial futures and the financial rewards I receive for a job well done.

Overcoming the Challenges
Financially surviving the first couple of years was challenging, as was developing the self-confidence to work with people who earn three or four times the amount I was making, and finding a market that allows me to be effective.

Along the way, I've learned that the degree of my success is very much dependent upon my self-confidence, self-determination and attitude.

With all my client relationships being new, there has not been a claim to date.  However, I don't need to experience a claim in order to recognize the importance of my work.

Notable Milestones
My short-term goal is to qualify for Million Dollar Round Table for 2006. My long-term goal is to requalify every single year.

Sound Career Advice
This career is a great opportunity if you enjoy being in front of people, educating and helping them; if you thrive on being your own boss; if you have an optimistic and self-confident personality; if you can make phone calls with a smile although you would prefer doing something else; if you can accept rejection as part of the business; and last but not least if you have sufficient savings or resources to financially help through the first couple of years.

The Northwestern Mutual Financial Network Difference
There are several components that give Northwestern Mutual a competitive advantage:

The history, financial strength and third-party ratings speak for themselves.

Unlike stock companies where shareholder interests stand above policy holder interests, the mutual structure ensures that our business decisions are based upon providing the best possible benefit to our policy holders.

The career-oriented sales system gives us exclusive access to Northwestern Mutual products and services, while also allowing us to be appointed by other carriers if their product is a better fit for the client.

Outside of Work
My market is the local university. In my spare time, I support and participate in events sponsored by the university.
