A Rewarding Career Choice
I decided upon this career because I saw many men in their mid-40s who were very unhappy in my previous career. So, I decided to take my television advertising sales skills and transfer them where I would have more independence, flexibility; and an opportunity to be rewarded based upon my own talent and skills.
The greatest reward of being a Financial Representative is the independence and freedom of running my own professional, financial services practice. The freedom, the flexibility, the responsibility and accountability to myself are something I take very seriously.
Overcoming the Challenges
Patience. You need patience in beginning your career, you need patience in growing your career and you need patience in maturing your career. The trust that the action you are putting forward will yield results requires great patience.
Early in the career, maintaining a consistently high activity level is crucial. There are plenty of ups and downs in the first few years and maintaining a high activity level is the only consistent means of building your career.
Along the way, I have learned that my greatest strengths are my intuition, my strategic planning ability and that most folks consider me a kind, sincere, committed man.
Making a Difference
In 2001, a husband and wife had just gotten married. They decided to apply for life insurance but the medical exam disclosed a heart condition on the husband.
The couple did not want to accept the life insurance because the rating increased the premiums. I was able to place most of the life insurance suggested.
Six months later, my client died of a heart attack and the proceeds made available for the surviving spouse ensured she could remain in her house and begin rebuilding a life that she'd just thought she was starting.
Milestones and Accomplishments
Watching clients retire, seeing my clients' children go to college, providing an income in the case of a disability claim and watching the usage of our solutions are what I consider my career milestones.
