A Legacy Continues
Terry McTigue was a full-time student at what is now the Carlson School of Business. His father and grandfather were both long-time financial representatives, so Terry grew up with Northwestern Mutual Financial Network as part of his life.

The Career
Terry enjoys the freedom to run his own business and help people move closer to their financial goals. Terry feels that spending time on a daily basis with quality individuals and learning about their businesses, careers, and families is a great reward. And personally, Terry finds an even greater reward is the financial freedom the career allows for him and his family.

He finds it can be challenging to stay current in the ever-changing financial world. Terry also has experienced the pains of staying organized and, because Terry was new to the area when starting his career, found it difficult to consistently meet quality prospective clients.

Making a Difference
Terry shares an experience with one of his clients:

"I had a client who was an Apple computer salesmen and I sold to him right out of college. Years later, he went to the ER, thinking he had the flu. Six hours later he died from pancreatitis. He left a non-working wife and two boys under 6 years old. In reviewing his wife's financial situation shortly after his funeral, we determined she and the boys would be financially covered for life. I felt pride in not only knowing that he purchased the life insurance he needed, but also that I was able to convince him to complete his will, and become an important part of his estate. His two boys are now in college, completely funded. I realized this could happen to anybody."

Career Milestones
At the Network, representatives are measured on consistency. Terry is proud that he has always qualified for the new client bonus.  Terry is a Life Qualifier for the Million Dollar Round Table (2001-2006), National Quality Award winner (1985-1986, 1988-1989, 1991-2006), and was the 2005 Jack G. Brown award winner which recognizes a representative in The Columns Resource Group who demonstrates business success, personal integrity and community involvement.

He is the third generation of his family to work in management at a Network office. Terry has managed the Minnetonka District Network Office of the Columns Resource Group since 1996. In 2005, his office was an Achievement Award winner for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network.

Terry's goal for the future is to continue producing at a level in the top 25% of all financial representatives and mentoring quality individuals into this great career.

Career Advice

He offers, "I've been in this business over 27 years, and the opportunity in our financial services business has never been better."

Outside of work, Terry enjoys spending time with his family, woodworking, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. He volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, PROP (People Reaching out to other People—a local food shelter), and the Columns Resource Group Foundation.
